Farm Boy celebrated the official grand opening of its first fresh market location in the GTA, specifically Durham Region, at the end of August. The new 28,000 square foot Farm Boy Whitby store brings more than 150 full and part-time jobs to the community.
Nancy Rutherford, Manager of Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Affairs with Durham Region, shared with us: “We are working closely with staff organizers of the recently opened Farm Boy in Whitby to ensure our local Durham Farm Fresh producers and local farmers are provided the opportunity to market and sell their products on the shelves on an ongoing basis.”
Staying true to the Farm Boy roots, the new store promises to deliver “the very best, fresh-and-friendly, convenient, fresh market shopping experience.”
Prior to the ribbon cutting, Farm Boy presented Kevin Empey, President, & CEO, Lakeridge Hospital with a $5,000 donation in support of their nutritional and health education programs.
The new store marks the 18th Farm Boy location in Ontario and the third of four stores planned to open in 2015.
