Research

Good decision making relies on accurate data and timely research. Canadian census data combined with other sources such as Analyst have allowed the Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance to show the trends, effect of urbanization and the economic impact of the Food and Farming sector in the Golden Horseshoe.

Asset Mapping Info Sheet: Methodology

This Info Sheet on the GHFFA Asset Mapping Methodology has been released to accompany our Asset Mapping Project Profile, Analysis of Food and Farming Assets in the Greater Golden Horseshoe (see below). The methodology Info Sheet is offered as an additional resource to supplement the asset mapping project profiles.

Asset Mapping Project Profile

Asset Mapping is a tool that can be used to collect, reflect upon and document the businesses and resources in a defined area. Read the Golden Horseshoe Food and Farming Alliance’s project profile to learn more about asset mapping in the agri-food value chain.

Asset Mapping in the Greater Golden Horseshoe

The Golden Horseshoe Asset Mapping project has been expanded to include the Greater Golden Horseshoe. This tool has been developed to help municipalities gather data and map the agrifood value chain across the GGH regions. It is available to municipal staff in participating municipalities.

Asset Mapping

The Alliance has developed a tool that helps municipalities gather data and map the agrifood value chain. The Asset Mapping project was piloted in the Golden Horseshoe and expanded in 2015 to the Greater Golden Horseshoe. This tool is available to municipal staff in participating municipalities.

Agriculture Profile

Since 1991, the GTA AAC and the GHFFA have been collecting the data on farms in the GTA. For the 2011 census, the study area expanded to include the City of Hamilton and the Region of Niagara. The profile reflects the numbers of farms, age of farmers, crop values and commodities produced. Over time, the changes have been dramatic.
